The education provided by Canadian universities is as good as the one offered in US, but at one-fourth of the cost in US. The only challenge is the language as in Canada, both English and French are official languages. There are more colleges whose fees are less and having a good rank also.

In QS World University Rankings 2014/15, about twenty six universities from Canada are listed, of which three are in the World’s top 50. The two highest Canadian entries are the University of Toronto and McGill University which are at twentieth and twenty first positions in world’s top universities. Other top universities are University of Calgary, Université de Montréal, Queen’s University, University of British Columbia, and Western University.

Undergraduate courses in Canada take three or five years to complete depending on the university where as postgraduate courses takes period between one and three years to complete depending on the courses. As universities in Canada are managed by provincial governments, there are minor variances in how education is carried out. Quebec in particular is evidently different to the rest of Canada, with different term times and length of study.

 

Average fees in Canada for international students is CA $15,000. Universities set their own fees and the cost depends on the course and subject. Fees for engineering and medicine are high compared to other courses like arts and humanities. There are online tools available which help the international students to analyse the costs in different colleges in Canada.

Bursaries, grants and scholarships are available for international students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and it is very important that applications for the courses needs to be applied as early as possible as scholarships are limited and highly competitive. One example is Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Program, which provides financial aid to students from Commonwealth countries.
