IIT Mandi is one of the second generation of IITs in India. Started in 2009, it quickly gained worldwide recognition as one of the best upcoming technical institutes in the country. IIT Mandi workshops are one of the most sought-after events in Himachal. IIT Mandi offers flexible learning to all B.Tech students right from their first year. Students can choose from a wide range of electives and pursue their interests in various fields. The electives are indeed a boon for students who couldn’t get admission into their preferred courses. They still get to pursue their passions in the field of their interest through the various conferences, workshops and seminars conducted on campus.

Events at IIT Mandi – The institute offers ample opportunities for students to gain an edge in technology and other sciences. Hands-on interactive workshops, interaction sessions with successful entrepreneurs and industry leaders, are a regular part of the academic schedule at IIT Mandi.

Here’s a List of the Major Events held at the Campus Annually:

Exodia

This is the annual techno-cultural festival and is a three-day long event. The first version of Exodia was held in 2012, and since then it has grown to become one of the largest student-organized college fests in the Himalayas. Exodia attracts talented students from all over north India. What makes this event unique, when compared with other college fests is that it promotes and showcases the vibrant beauty and culture of the Himalayan region through specially dedicated events, competitions, workshops, and seminars.

WAC Workshops

These are a series of technical IIT Mandi workshops organised by the renowned internet portal, What After College in partnership with the institute. The workshops cover a wide range of recent trends and advances in technology. The workshops are open to students from all institutes and participants require no prior knowledge of the topic.

The courses are highly interactive and ignite the thirst for knowledge among students. All students are provided with a recognised certificate on completion of the workshop.

  • Rann – Neeti

This is the annual sports fest of IIT Mandi and is held during odd semesters. This event attracts budding student sportspersons from all over the country. Started in 2013, the Rann – Neeti has seen tremendous participation every year. Some of the events conducted are volleyball, basketball, athletics, chess, table tennis, badminton, football, cricket and hockey.

  • Aakarshan

This is the inaugural cultural event conducted to warmly welcome freshers. Students acquaint themselves with the activities of the various student clubs on campus via this event.

  • Utkarsh

It’s an in-house technical event where students from different technical clubs organize various competitions. It’s conducted during November.

  • Aagaz

This is a sports tournament where students from various years compete with seniors and juniors. The sports society of IIT Mandi is in charge of this event and is held in March.

  • Exuberance

This is an in-house cultural event where students from various departments compete with other departments.

  • Avishkar

It’s the annual intra-college technical event that is held on the odd semesters. Students from various clubs organise competitions and seminars. The Avishkar committee is also responsible for publishing the campus newsletters.

  • Lit Fest

This is the annual intra-college literature festival and is held every even semester. The lit fest sees several events like Poetry, Quizzes, Group Discussions, JAM (Just a Minute) and more.

Who can Participate in the Workshops, Seminars and Events at IIT Mandi?

IIT Mandi workshops are mainly of two types – the events that are exclusively for students of the institute and other events that are open to all students across the country, irrespective of their alma mater.

Events that are open to all include the Technical Workshop Series organised on campus by WhatAfterCollege.com, Exodia, Rann Neeti, and other seminars and symposiums. However, events like the Lit Fest, Avishkar, Exuberance, Aagaz, Utkarsh, are intra-collegiate and are exclusively for the current students of IIT Mandi.

How to Reach IIT Mandi?

Mandi is a small town in Himachal, on the way to popular hill station destinations like Manali and Kullu. The campus is at 14kms from the city centre and near to the village of Kamand.

From Mandi – Several HRTC buses frequently run between the campus and the city. Additionally, there are also shuttle buses that operate regularly between the transit campus at Mandi and the main campus at Kamand.

How to get to Mandi?

By Road – The distance between Mandi and Delhi is around 475 kms and takes 12 hours by bus. You can also take private taxis run by several operators.

By Train – You can take the Delhi – Una Himachal Express from Delhi to Kiratpur Sahib. Get down at this station and take a taxi/bus to Mandi. It takes around 3.5 hours from Kiratpur Sahib to reach Mandi.

By Air – The nearest airport is the Chandigarh airport and is around 214 kms away from the campus. It takes around 6 hours to reach IIT Mandi campus from the airport. Other nearby airports are Kullu Airport (50kms/1.5 hours away), Dharamshala Airport (150kms/3.5 hours away).
