What is IIT and JEE

IIT stands for Indian Institutes of Technology and they have globally recognized engineering and technical colleges in our country. They are appreciated due to their quality education and internationally acclaimed research facilities. They are also recognized for producing high-quality engineers, technologists, and scientists. These institutes are one of the reasons for the increase in industrial development and manufacturing in our country as they produced the best engineering minds. They are governed by the IIT act of 1961. The first IIT was set up in Kharagpur in the year 1951. At present, there are 23 IITs in the country. IIT pass-outs are gifted with various opportunities. From admissions to world-famous colleges to amazing international placements, IITians have it all. And this is the very reason millions of people aspire to be an IITian. And the door to get into IIT is JEE.

JEE stands for Joint Entrance Exam and it is a national-level exam that is conducted for admissions to various engineering colleges in India. It is conducted by The Joint Seat Allocation Authority. It is the exam one has to give to get into any of the 23 IITs. Millions of aspirants give the exam every year, and only some of them can end up in an IIT. Other than IIT and JEE, It also selects candidates for admission to 31 National Institutes of Technology, 25 Indian Institutes of Information Technology, and other Government Funded Technical Institutes. It is of two stages:

  • JEE Main – Candidates have to clear the JEE main to appear for JEE advanced. JEE main also offers a chance to get admission to Undergraduate Engineering programs and prestigious institutions like NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, etc. It also comprises a second paper that offers admission to B. Arch and B. Planning Courses. Candidates should have at least 75% marks in the 12th Board Exams. The limit is 65% for SC-ST.
  • JEE Advanced – Now, to get admission into various undergraduate programs across all the 23 IITs, candidates will have to clear the second level of JEE, which is JEE Advanced. One can appear for the Advanced, by attaining a rank within the top 250,000.
