The District library was established in the year 1955-56. The library has more than 85,000 collections. It has three sections –science and technology, reading and reference and issue at present and is planning to add four more. It exists with an aim to set high standards of excellence in the preservation of knowledge.

Lakshminath Bezbaroa Central Library
Central Library of IIT Guwahati, which is an exceptionally calm place to read and is open till 2 am. You can visit the Bibliophile Café ,located in Panbazar near the Western Book Depot. It’s a wonderful place for book lovers with a wide collection of books on many topics as well as all the classic and known novels.
Window to the world of latest information in sciences, engineering, technology, humanities & social sciences. The Library of the Institute was named after the renowned and much revered literary figure Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa on 5th December, 2014. Being a major central service point, it provides necessary supports for teaching, learning, research activities of the Institute by creating state-of-the-art facilities and offering innovative services to the academic community.
The Lakshminath Bezbaroa Central Library is housed on a four storeyed building having a floor area of about 7500 sq. meter.The Library currently has 1,54,564 printed volumes and 2291 subscribed current journals. Several e-books and online fulltext and abstract database, across all domain of academic pursuit are available through the campus network.

S.K. Bhuyan Library
Dr Surya Kumar Bhuyan Library of Cotton University founded at the time of the inception of the college itself is one of the oldest libraries in entire north-east region. Initially it was housed in one of the two large halls of a spacious single storied building.
When the volume of books started increasing, it has been shifted to an independent building which was earlier used as Physics department. The new library building has been named as Centenary building of the college and was officially inaugurated by the Former Chief Minister of Assam Sri Tarun Gogoi on 29th May 2001.

Bishnu Nirmala Children Library
Bishnu Nirmala Children Library was established in the year 1985. This library is specially for Children who are under the age of 4 to 16 years. This library is situated in-front of Latasil playground of Guwahati.The library comprises of three separate sections.
One is for reading books, one is a children’s corner for playing games and watching TV programmmes like cartoon & news etc,the last one is a lending section. No formal membership is required to use the reading section. Any child can enter the library, sign in a register and use the books.
It is well equipped with books in English , Assamese, Hindi, Bengali and the library provides children with reading material for information and fun. At present the Bishnu Nirmala Children Library holds about fourteen thousand books and eleven periodicals of English and Assamese language.
