The host state of the 37th National Games, Goa, secured the second position with 152 medals including 63 gold. Indian Railways came in the third position with 78 medals, including 27 gold. Swimming and athletics were Maharashtra’s main gold medal-winning events, finishing top in both sports.
Despite the impact of the pandemic, about 4,000 athletes representing different states and government bodies took part in the two-week-long event. These included 1,700 officials and support staff. The 37th National Games were held from October 20 to November 4 in 39 sports including 16 disciplines for men and 15 for women.
Maharashtra emerged as the new powerhouse of Indian sports by securing the top spot in the 37th National Games.
