The Indian Institute of Technology Indore has launched a new programme for engineering students i.e., B.Tech in Chemical Engineering for the academic session 2023-24. The course at IIT Indore aims to provide a holistic perspective to engineering students focusing on a multidisciplinary, and hands-on approach.
The BTech Chemical Engineering is also offered by 16 other IITs such as IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, and IIT Kharagpur among others.
What is Chemical Engineering?
Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering that focuses on the design, development, and operation of processes for the production, transformation, and use of chemicals and materials. Chemical engineers use principles of chemistry, physics, and mathematics to design and optimise processes that convert raw materials into useful products such as pharmaceuticals, fuels, plastics, food, etc.
Chemical engineers can get jobs in a variety of industries, including oil and gas, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, materials science, and more. They may be involved in designing and optimising chemical processes, developing new products and materials, improving and reforming existing processes, or looking over the construction and operation of chemical plants.
B.Tech in Chemical Engineering: Structure of Course
It is a full-time undergraduate degree course that will be completed in a duration of four years divided into eight semesters and each semester will include 6-7 subjects and an elective option apart from it.
The B.Tech in Chemical Engineering structure and curriculum is developed by a panel of academic experts from across the world. The programme is offered with multiple specializations including Biochemical, Energy, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical, Processing, etc.
B.Tech in Chemical Engineering: Eligibility Criteria
Students will be able to take admission to the Chemical Engineering programme at IIT Indore on the basis of the JEE Advanced 2023 score. Apart from this, the applicant must have cleared the Class 12th (or equivalent) exams from any recognised state or central board.
Chemical Engineering is one of the core disciplines in the field of engineering and there is a rising demand for chemical engineers in the various verticals like petrochemical, Biofuel, energy, Food Processing, etc.
The BTech Chemical Engineering is also offered by 16 other IITs such as IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, and IIT Kharagpur among others.
