Thiruvananthapuram: In yet another record, 99.7 percent of candidates who appeared for the SSLC examination have become eligible for higher studies this year. The number of students who secured A+ for all subjects too has jumped to 68604, an increase of 24241 compared to last year.
General education minister V Sivankutty announced the results of the 2022-23 academic year at a news conference here on Friday. Last year, the pass percent was 99.26.He said the near 100 percent pass and the substantial increase in the number of candidates securing A+ for all subjects, did reflect the academic excellence and the hard work of the students. Unlike in the Covid times, there was no `focus area’ marked for the examination.
Of the 419368 students registered, 4 19 128 have appeared for the examination. Among this, 4 17 864 candidates have been declared eligible for higher studies. Kannur revenue district recorded the highest pass percentage ( 99.94), while Pala and Moovattupuzha educational districts recorded 100 percent victory. The highest number of candidates appeared for the examination in Malappuram (77 967) and the lowest in Pathanamthitta ( 10 213).
The pass percentage in SSLC Hearing impaired (HI) examination is 99.55. Of the 227 candidates who appeared, 226 have become eligible for higher studies. In the Technical High School Leaving Certificate Examination ( THSLC), the pass percentage is 99 as 2913 of 2916 candidates who appeared for the exam become eligible for higher studies. All the 13 candidates who appeared for the THSLC (HI) exam have cleared the same. In the AHSLC exam at Kerala Kalamandalam, 53 of the 60 candidates who appeared for the examination became eligible for higher studies. Pass percentage there is 88.33.
The minister said the government plans to start Plus One classes on June 5 and the admission process would be fast-tracked accordingly so that students would get 50 more school days compared to the 2022-23 academic year. He said the department was expecting the enrollment to Plus One courses would be around 3.85 lakh in 2023-24 academic year. The total number of seats in higher secondary, vocational higher secondary , Polytechnics and ITIs would be 465141, he said. According to the minister, the education department was planning to conduct the next SSLC examination from March 4. However, the same would be finalised after the talks with teachers’ unions.
