Guwahati: Assam class 12 state board examination results recorded 7 to 13 percent decline in pass percentage from last year, as the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) declared the results in short notice at 9 am on Tuesday.
In Arts, the pass percentage dropped from last year’s 83.48 to 70.12, while in Science, the success rate declined from 92.19 to 84.96 percent. The fall in commerce has been from 87.27 percent to 79.57.
In Vocational stream too, pass percentage dropped from last year’s 89.30 to 85.61.
In Science, Nikhilesh Dutta, a non-institutional private candidate topped the exam by scoring 484 aggregate marks out of 500.
Sankalpajit Saikia of Ramanujan Senior Secondary School, Nagaon is the Arts topper. He secured 490 out of 500 marks.
Varsha Bothra of KC Das Commerce College, Guwahati and Sukanya Kumar of Malaybari Senior Secondary School, Kamrup (Metro) are joint toppers in Commerce. Both scored 472 out of 500.
Barring the inflated pass percentage of over 99 due to the formula based evaluation in 2021 after the exams were cancelled due to Covid-19, AHSE last year recorded the best ever Class 12 board results of last one decade in science and arts.
This year, highest 2.61 lakh candidates appeared from Arts, 46,384 from Science and 20,417 from Commerce in the exam held in February-March.
Among regular candidates, girls have performed better than the boys in all three major streams—- Science, Arts and Commerce. Against 86.49 pass percentage of female candidates in Science, the pass percentage of male candidates stood at 83.80.
In Arts, the pass pass percentage of male and female candidates have been recorded to be 66.94 and 72.92 respectively.
In Commerce, 81.27 percent female candidates passed against 78.88 percent male candidates.
