NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the results for Class 10th and 12th on May 12, 2023. A total of 21,65,805 students appeared for Class 10th, with a pass percentage of 93.12%, indicating a decrease of 1.28% from the previous year. Despite this, the pass percentage of 93.12% in 2023 surpassed the pre-Covid pass percentage of 91.10% in 2019. Overall 38,64,373 students registered for the CBSE examinations this year.
For Class 12th, 16,60,511 students appeared, and the overall pass percentage was 87.33%, showing a decrease of 5.385% from the previous year. The top-performing region was Trivandrum, with a pass percentage of 99.91%. However, Prayagraj remained at the bottom with a pass percentage of 78.05%.
A total of 28,471 schools in India and 26 countries participated in the Class 10th examinations, with 24,480 schools and 7,241 exam centres. Similarly, for Class 12th, 11,137 schools participated. This year, CBSE has changed the nomenclature of the Compartment Examination to Supplementary Examination, in line with the recommendations made by the National Education Policy 2020. Class XII students will be allowed to improve their performance in one subject in the supplementary examination, which will be conducted in July 2023.
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, congratulated the students on Twitter, “Congratulations to all my young friends who have successfully passed the CBSE Class 10th and 12th exams. Your hard work and perseverance have paid off. Best wishes for your future endeavours.” Similarly, the Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, congratulated the students and urged those who did not meet their expectations to not lose heart.
CBSE also recognized the top-performing students in Class 12th and 12th with a special recognition scheme. The top 1% of students in each subject were given a certificate of merit by CBSE, and the top 0.1% were given a merit certificate and a scholarship of Rs. 5000 per month for two years.
As per the information released by the CBSE, the supplementary exams for Class XII students who wish to improve their performance or for those who are placed in the supplementary category will be conducted in July 2023. The exact dates for the supplementary exams will be announced by the board soon.
