Trichy: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is to utilise the expertise of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy for scrutinizing the detailed project report (DPR) for the realigned stretch of stage I of the semi-ring road. NHAI has already completed 90% of the land acquisition for the link road connecting the Trichy-Madurai National Highway with the Trichy-Karur National Highway via the Trichy-Dindigul National Highway. A majority of property owners were compensated to acquire their lands for constructing the semi-ring road to decongest Trichy city.
NHAI said that the NIT Trichy will be roped in to receive suggestions for adding facilities on the realigned stretch of the semi-ring road which has been pending for over a decade now. The length of the road realigned in a manner not to affect the water bodies is likely to be around 20-21 km.
“Once the NIT-Trichy verifies the DPR, we will submit the same to our headquarters for further developments including floating a tender for identifying a suitable contractor to execute the realigned semi-ring road work,” an official source told TOI. Stage I of the semi-ring road will connect Panjapur on Trichy-Madurai NH with Jeeyapuram on Trichy-Karur NH via Thayanur on Trichy-Dindigul NH.
