Establishment of IIT Guwahati
Established in 1994, IIT Guwahati or IITG is the 6th IIT in India. Its foundation traces back to the Assam Accord which was signed between the Government of India and the All Assam Students Union in 1985 for improving the quality of education in Assam.
As per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Ministry of HRD in India, IITG is ranked as the 7th top engineering college in India as per the 2018 rankings. It is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Indian Government and offers undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D. courses in more than 10 disciplines. It also has 10 research centers and is home to Param-Ishan, the most powerful and fastest supercomputer in the eastern, southern and northeastern regions of India.
The institute has an Entrepreneurial Cell to encourage entrepreneurship in students not just from IITG but other colleges and universities in North-East India. It also organizes an annual entrepreneurship summit, Udgam, which consists of several programs, networking sessions, and workshops. It is attended by eminent entrepreneurs and students get to interact with them and learn more about entrepreneurship and its challenges.
Workshops at IIT Guwahati
Several workshops are organized at the institute on a regular basis by the faculty as well as large corporations like Microsoft. From work design, papermaking, video workshop, robotics, ethical hacking, predictive analysis, virtual reality, data analytics, cinema to space design, the workshops at IITG are spread across a broad range of topics.
Apart from the workshops, many different conferences, guest lectures, and seminars are also held at IITG to help students understand how modern industries function, introduce them to latest innovations and technologies and sharpen their skills. All these events are organized at the institute to help students know more than just the standard academics and prepare them for their career in future.
IITG also lays a major emphasis on encouraging entrepreneurship in its students and many of the events revolve around entrepreneurial topics. The institute also has an excellent Technology Incubation Center to provide business support, technical support, financial support, legal support and help with networking to students interested in startups. There are already more than 15 companies that have been incubated by the center.

Techniche
This is an annual festival of techno-management at IITG. It is held every year in the September month over three days. It is attended by reputed experts from many different industries and students are given an opportunity to interact with them. Kiran Bedi, R. Chidambaram, John C. Mather and H.C. Verma have attended the festival in the past.
Apart from the guest talks, a number of workshops too are organized during the festival. Mathematical Analysis, Autonomic Networks, Role of Numerical Analysis in Scientific Computing, Foundation of Computer Science, and Fundamentals of Numerical Computing were some of the workshops held at IITG during Techniche’17.

What After College, popularly known as WAC, is a unique national series of workshops which aim to help students know more about the latest career opportunities in India and abroad. It is attended by industry leaders, innovators, and education experts who provide great insights about the professional world outside the college and help students pick the right career.
A number of workshops too are organized during the WAC event to help students learn new skills. Some of the most popular ones are Web & UX Design, Ethical Hacking, and IT Security. The WAC event too is held around the Techniche festival and several new workshops and programs have been scheduled for WAC’18 at IITG.
Dimension
Dimension is the annual technical fest of Matrix, the student body of Department of Mathematics at IITG. The event is held in the month of April every year and is full of great events focusing on topics like Mathematics, Computer Science, and Finance. Dimension’18 which was held between 2nd and 8th April had Lecture Series, Data Science BootCamp, HackOverflow, Online Data Science Quiz, and Alumni Meet.
For Dimension’19, the student body is working on innovative ideas and concepts to make the event bigger and more rewarding than last year. It is expected that the event would be attended by several distinguished personalities and alumni of the institute and would also consist of many different workshops, lectures, seminars, and more.

Who Can Attend Workshops at IIT Guwahati?
The IIT Guwahati workshops, short courses, and conferences are generally open for all the students from IITG as well as other universities and colleges. The registration is done online and students can register themselves for these events by paying the registration fees and uploading the required documents.
While most workshops are generally open for non-IITG students, some of the short-courses are only available for IITG students. Make sure that you go through the details of any of the event you are planning to attend at IITG to know more about the eligibility.

How to Reach IIT Guwahati?
Guwahati is considered as the gateway to the serene North East India and is well-connected by road, air, and rail. IITG is about 20kms away from the city center. If you are traveling by air, select the destination as Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport. There are daily flights to Guwahati from popular cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Bengaluru. The distance between the airport and IITG is about 20kms.
For students traveling by train, reach the Guwahati Railway Station and hire a cab to reach IITG which is about 20kms. Alternatively, you can also walk to the Pan Bazaar which is close to the railway station. Here, look for an IITG Green Valley bus which will take you to the campus.
Accommodation in Guwahati
Guwahati has turned into a popular tourist destination in the past few years and you can now find good hotels and accommodations across all the different price points. However, if you are planning to attend a workshop at IITG, make sure that you first go through the details of the workshop as IITG offers accommodation at the campus hostels for many of the events.
