Located in the Matunga region, Mumbai, Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute imparts the best quality education in different fields of engineering and technology.
Established in 1887 as Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute, this one of the oldest engineering colleges in Asia was rechristened to its present title on January 26, 1997.
Started with only two departments, namely the Sir J. J. School of Mechanical Engineering and the Ripon Textile School, today VJTI offers over 27 courses at UG, PG, PG Diploma and Doctorate level to more than 3000 students.
Financially supported by the Government of Maharashtra, VJTI is the first Mumbai University affiliated institution that was granted autonomy in 2004.
Initially, VJTI Mumbai workshops started functioning from a building in Byculla donated by Sir Dinshaw Maneckji Peti. Soon after the World War in1923, the institution relocated to its present campus at Matunga.
Spread over a spacious 16-acre campus, VJTI Mumbai has well-equipped classrooms, separate hostels with a capacity to accommodate about 664 students, computer laboratories, lecture halls, canteen and many other facilities.
VJTI made it to the list of top-100 engineering colleges in India and featured at 95th position by the NIRF in 2018.
VJIT Mumbai: Extending study outside the boundary of classrooms and labs
Implementing a practical learning approach in the regular curriculum, VJTI Mumbai always strives to provide students with great exposure by organizing workshops, short-courses, conferences etc at the college campus. Consisting of students from all the courses, the college has a Social Group to promote extra-curricular events at the campus. From organizing exhibitions, lectures, debates, guest-talks with famous personalities to conducting annual fest and several inter-college competitions, the Social Group is responsible for a wide range of duties. While the Gymkhana Group of VJTI Mumbai promotes sports and outdoor games like cricket, football, etc, the dedicated Complaints Committee of this college handles sexual harassment complaints against women in the campus.

Technovanza
Started in 2000, Technovanza is the annual Techno-Management festival of VJIT Mumbai. Aiming to spread the knowledge of technology to every part of the society, this three-day- long fest is organized by the students of VJIT in the month of December every year.
Providing the budding engineers with a strong platform, this fest not only allows them to exhibit their technical expertise but also encourage them to use technology to empower society.
Encompassing more than 25 events including several competitions and exhibitions, every year Technovanza attracts a footfall of more than 35,000 participants from different colleges across the country. Technovanza has grown leaps and bounds over the last 18 years to become the largest and most awaited techno-management fest in Maharashtra.

How to reach VJTI Mumbai?
Located at the heart of Mumbai city, VJTI campus is well connected with every part of the country by rail, road and air.
If opting for trains to reach VJIT, there are three ways to reach there.
Via Harbour line: Get off at Wadala or Kings Circle. VJIT is about 8-10 minutes of walk from both of these stations
Via Central line: Get down at Matunga station and take an auto for VJIT. The VJTI’s Chemistry department gate is within 15-20 minutes’ walk from the station.
Western line: Get off at Dadar station and take a taxi to reach the college.
Running on more than 17000 routes, MSRTC connects the neighbouring states with every part of Maharashtra. Located at a distance of 6 km, Wadala bus depot is the nearest bus terminus from VJIT.
The nearest airport to the institution is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. It would take nearly 25 minutes in less traffic hours to reach VJTI from the airport by private taxi or cab.

For a few workshops or seminars, accommodation is arranged by the VJTI Mumbai management in the college hostel or guest-house.
