Why Do Students Get Demotivated While Preparing for CAT- Hello to all the CAT aspirants. Today, in this article, I will discuss why many CAT aspirants get demotivated during their CAT prep.
I would like to share with you all an observation of mine. Every year, the number of students writing mocks is the highest in the month of September. But surprisingly, the number of students writing mocks from October onwards starts declining, touching the lowest figure in the month of November. I have always been intrigued by this strange pattern.
It is a common expectation that as the exam date draws near, an increasing number of students would take the mock exams. However, it has been observed that the opposite occurs every year. The reason for this is simple: students getting badly demotivated by their mock scores.
As a teacher and mentor, I have pondered over this, trying to figure out the most common reasons for students getting demotivated While Preparing for CAT right at the most critical time of their preparation. Here are some of these reasons:
- Lack of fighting spirit: Many students abandon their CAT preparation not because they lack the necessary skills, but because they aim to succeed on their very first mock exam. They want to score a 98 percentile effortlessly. However, this is only possible for those who are exceptionally good in one or two sections. The reality is that the majority of the test takers will have to put in more efforts to achieve the same level of proficiency. So, if you are averse to working hard, it would be very difficult for you to survive in the race for too long.
- Not willing to face weaknesses: Many students avoid looking at their mistakes and weaknesses. They keep writing mock after mock, hoping to eventually get the desired score. However, the reality is that their performance worsens with every passing mock. It is important to scrutinize every mock, identify areas of improvement, and work on them before taking the next mock.
- Not yet ready for mocks: Some students start writing mocks even when they are not fully prepared. It is crucial to have a clear understanding of the concepts, develop a strategy and approach, and take enough sectional tests to build the stamina required for mocks. Writing mocks without complete preparation can be detrimental to your chances of doing well.
In conclusion, it is important to only write mocks when you feel ready for it. Take the time to analyze your performance, work on your weaknesses, and closely monitor your progress with each mock. Be willing to put in the necessary hard work to achieve your desired score.
