AI has made its presence felt today in almost every sector to advance the present technologies and develop new innovations. It is used extensively in developed and advanced countries. But AI is still at an intermediate stage in developing countries with a lot of challenges to overcome to implement AI in these countries.
So, let’s look at the status of AI in developing countries.
Availability, accessibility, and quality of data
Good quality, clean, and accurate data is a necessity for the proper functioning of AI systems. A large pool of data has to be analyzed to predict trends, make strategies, and implement AI solutions. But the quality of data in developing countries is not up to the standards and is difficult to collect and store. The data is not uniform, not easily available, and difficult to process. Thus, implementing AI is not easy.
Privacy
Privacy and data security regulations in developed countries are strict as people are aware of their rights and are concerned about their data. But in developing countries, people do not care majorly about their data and thus companies can exploit their data easily. Governments of developing countries don’t give much priority to privacy laws and thus there is not much protection against data misuse.
Less Scope
Skilled and expert professionals in AI are already short in numbers, and these professionals tend to work in more advanced countries for better pay and opportunities. Developing countries lack scope, tools, knowledge, skilled professionals, and thus the growth of AI in developing countries is slow.
Also, people are very much habituated to the existing older technologies and find it difficult to adapt to the AI-based systems. Therefore, companies hesitate to provide full AI-based services to their customers.
Lack of Government initiatives
Governments in developing countries are not very tempted to use AI in their systems and encourage local companies to use them. Due to the lack of resources and expensive AI tools, ruling authorities tend to stick to traditional methods. Also, employees and people are not used to such technology and thus it is hard for them to get going with AI.
Governments do not trust very much on AI-based systems. This is so because that makes their data vulnerable to leak and misuse as there are no proper data security norms and technologies in the developing countries.
AI benefitting developing countries
The use of AI in developing countries has improved existing systems and infrastructures. It has increased transparency and has helped governments in collecting data and making plans and strategies. AI has helped to improve the healthcare systems, has made access to education easy and improved banking and financial sector. Also, the use of AI in the agricultural sector has helped boost crop production.
So, AI in developing countries is still at a preliminary or intermediate stage, but has already impacted many sectors. Despite of the challenges, the future of AI looks bright in developing countries.
