Rendezvous 2017 – The IIT Delhi Cultural Fest

Rendezvous– A Bohemian Getaway,famously known as RDV is the annual cultural fest of IIT Delhi held every year. This year it was held in the month of October over a span of four days from 13th October to 16th October 2017. It was an event loaded with professional shows, fun competitions and adventurous activities, workshops, Pronites, Informal events and much more. This was the 42nd edition of the inter-collegiate festival with around 600 colleges participating across India and over 50,000 registrations, with nearly 500 cultural events including dance, debates, photography, music and others. The team of Rendezvous is a non-profit student-run organisation which consists of student volunteers who work to promote creativity and intellectualism. The team is divided into several departments like The Publicity Department, The Events and International Events Department, The Social Department, The Prize Department, The Technical, Creative, Marketing, Infrastructure and Security Departments, all of them headed by the overall coordinators and the secretary. EVENTS AND PROCEEDINGS

The Director of The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (or IITD) Mr. V. Ramgopal Rao, presided over the function with a small speech and declared Rendezvous 2017 open, followed by the lighting of the holy lamp with the BRCA President Prof. Jyoti Kumar and The BRCA  General Secretary Mr. Rishabh Nagpal. However, all the events were held in the College Campus itself and the highlights of the fest were ‘The Dramatics Mimansa Prelims’ -the stage play competition, ‘The Dance GD Prelims’ – the group dance competition, ‘The Lifestyle Prelims’, ‘The Blitzkrieg Sound Check’- The Battle of the Bands, ‘Voice of Rendezvous’- the Singing Competition, ‘Silent DJ’ and the ‘Pronite’. Pronites are certainly the sparkling part of any college festival and the first of the Pronite of Rendezvous 2017 was opened by the enthusiastic performance of the punjabi singer Harrdy Sandhu on 13th October 2017 whose so heart-stirring performance made the audience go boom with the best part of him singing songs like ‘soch’, ‘backbone’,channna mereya’ and others during his performance. He also told the audience about his struggle as a singer and how he was left with no money before his song ‘soch’ therefore it was kept as his last song but when the song released it came out with flying colours and was loved by the people. The day ended on a very high and enthusiastic note with a message to the students of not leaving hope even in the hardest times of life.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”4683″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Day two of Rendezvous 2017 began with ‘Anahad’- the stage play competition and other events like ‘Debutant’-the debate competition, ‘Shabdhvyuh’, ‘Show Reel’- the film making competition, ‘The Design Revolution’, ‘Through the Lens’- the Photography Competition,’ The Dandiya Night’, ‘Confluence’ with Belly Dancer Gallina from Russia, Xavier Key (R&B Artist) from USA, Central Province National Dance Troupe from Sri Lanka and Shruti Dhasmana the vocalist from India and last but not the least the ‘Pronite’. The second of the Pronite in the Dreamville Hall of the campus was jam-packed by the students with the heart throbbing performance of ‘Kailash Kher’. The entire audience went gaga over him when he sang his all time hits; Teri Deewani, Tauba Taube Re, Bamlehri and more. After the energetic performance of Harrdy Sandhu in the first Pronite; Kailash Kher’s performace gave the soulful touch to Rendezvous 2017.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”4684″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The highlights of Day 3 i.e. 15th October 2017 of Rendezvous were events like the ‘Two-face’, ‘Chakravyuh’, ‘Sports Quiz’, the ‘Solo Dance Competition’, ‘A Talk With Divya Dutta’, the ‘Rap Battle’- the competition of the rappers, ‘Chhatrakavi’- the poetry competition, ‘Wordgames’, ‘Lifestyle’, ‘Couple Theme Party’, ‘Western Group Dance’, ‘Confluence’ with Alaska Snack Time- Electronic Jazz Dub step and AFRO from Israel, Mike Hogan- classical Guitarist from New Zealand and Bombay Bairag-the Indian Fusion Band and in the end the ‘Pronite’. The performance in the third session of the Pronite was certainly very different from the performances in the last two Pronites as the performance by the very famous stand-up comedian and the sakht londa of India Zakir Khan was held. His tremendous humour gave the sense of laughter and cheer to the audience and certainly they didn’t wanted him to end and his cool attitude of sakhti, pighalna nahi hai and Bhai aya hai bata ke jayega were the reason why the audience thrived for more and the day ended with a very positive and cheerful note.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”4685″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The last day of the Rendezvous 2017 was filled with more surprises as amazing events like ‘The Duo Dance’, ‘Quiz Maatrbhumi’, ‘Story teller’, ‘Literary Jam’, ’Natika Vatika’ -the stage play, ‘Agaaz’, ’Swar’, ‘Mr. & Ms. Rendzvous2017’, ’Street Dance’, ‘Punjabi night’, ‘Silent Dj’, ‘Confluence’ with Feten Feten– the instrumental duo from Spain, Pakshee– the Indian Jazz, Pop & rock band and Dhruv Vishvanath– the multi instrumental, singer, composer, song-writer and producer. The night ended with the Pronite with Dhoom.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

CONCLUSION

The conclusion of the festival was done by the sensational Pronite with the performance of Salim-Sulaiman, Vipul Mehta, Raj Pandit, Jovita Gandhi and Bhoomi Trivedi whose magical voices casted a spell on the audience. The amazing band Dhoom performed the most loved tracks of all times; kurbaan hua, khudaya, channa mereya, kabhi jo badal barse, tujh mein rab dikhta hai and more. It was the biggest of all the pronites of Rendezvous 2017 and their concert gave the fest the perfect ending.

However, everything which commences has to come to an end and so did Rendezvous 2017. The festival ended on an exuberant note with amazing achievements and new heights. Everyone enjoyed to the core and made memories to cherish all their lives. The hard work and dedication of everyone came out with flying colours as the festival turned out to be successful and all the activities and events went smoothly; with so much to learn and gain for the students and excitement and hopes for more for the nest year; Rendezvous 2017 bid adieu.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
