Applying for the Civil Service examinations has become easy from this year onwards that is 2015. Until last year, candidates were required to send their applications through post. However, it has turned digital now and applications will be accepted only on
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has eased the application procedure for the civil services. While earlier candidates were supposed to send their applications through post to UPSC, from 2015 they are expected to submit their applications online. The website for the same is
- Read detailed instructions given on the website carefully before submitting your applications. Only one application per candidate will be entertained. However, if for any reason multiple applications are submitted, the one with higher Registration ID (RID) should be complete. It should have complete details regarding applicant’s details, preferred exam centre, photograph, fee etc.
- After submission of the application, the candidate must download his eAdmission certificate from www.upsc.gov.in which will be available from three weeks before the examination date.
- Be very clear about choosing your centre of examination. If you appear at any other centre apart from the one mentioned on your e certificate, your papers will not be evaluated also the candidate stands a chance of disqualification.
- You are not supposed to submit any certificates regarding age, educational qualifications or any such matter. These would be asked for only during the mains.
There are a few other changes as well which would be worthwhile to know.
- Under new criteria applicable from 2015, the upper age limit for SC/ST candidates is 37, for OBC 35 and for general candidates 32.
- The number of attempts has also increased. While now there is no limit to how many times an SC/ST candidate can try his luck, OBC has 9 attempts and general candidate 6.
- A physically handicapped candidate from SC/ST category has unlimited attempts while OBC and general have 9. The upper age limit for SC/ST is 47, OBC is 45 and general is 42.
The application procedure must be followed diligently if you do not want to stand disqualified from the exams or miss out on them. Read the instructions carefully and do not miss out on anything asked for in the application. All the best!
