The UPSC releases notification to notify the age bar on its official site in regard to the Civil Service examination.
To appear for the UPSC civil service examination, the candidates who belong to General category and OBC (creamy layer) must have attained the age of 21 on 1st August of the year of the Exam but must not have attained the age of 32 on 1st August of the year of the Exam. Also, the UPSC age bar for EWS category is same as the general category. The candidates of the above mentioned categories get 6 attempts.
On the other hand, candidates belonging to OBC (non creamy layer) category must have attained the age of 21 on 1st August of the year of the Exam but must not have attained the age of 35 before or on 1st August of the year of the Exam. The candidates get 9 attempts.
For the candidates who belong to SC/ST category must have attained the UPSC age bar of 21 on 1st August of the year of the Exam but must not have attained the age of 37 on 1st August of the year of the Exam. The candidates of both SC/ST category get unlimited attempts.
There are Certain other Age Bar and Attempt Relaxations for the Category students which are mentioned below:-
There is relaxation for Physically Disabled candidates :- 32 years + 10 years; Gen/OBC/Person with Benchmark Disability(EWS category)- 9 attempts & SC/ST gets unlimited attempts.
For the Ex-Servicemen Commission Officer :- 32 years + 5 years + (3 years, if OBC or 5 Years, if SC/ST).
Lastly, Disabled and discharged Defence service personnel :- 32 years + 3 years + (3 years, if Gen/OBC or 5 years, if SC/ST).
The UPSC age bar for female is same as that of male. There is no discrimination based on gender.
