These are types of tools or instruments you must have to build your robot or prototype. You can say that you can build your robotics kit with these tools.

Of course, there are many additional robotics tools not listed here so this article does not attempt to discuss every tool you’re likely to use, but rather those common tools that are both the most affordable and the most practical for the average robot builder.

1.Mechanical Robotics Tools

Mechanical tools are used for building your robot so you’ll need some tools to form the body. These are mechanical robotics tools to build your robot or tools for the prototype.

For building robot, you just need a good set of basic tools, and kits are a great way to get them at considerable savings or you can buy these individually and make your own robotics kit. This can include:

  • Hammer: It is of no use in building robots except to whack parts to shape, or to demolish a robot that doesn’t behave. In spite of the fact that most robots are not made with nails, a standard 16-ounce hammer is a valuable tool for any workshop.
  • Screwdrivers and Wrenches: Get medium and small tip screwdrivers. Adjustable wrench socket and box wrench and Hex wrench are useful.
  • Electric Drill and Drill Bits: An electric motorized drill with a 1/4″ or 3/8″ chuck is preferred, but a hand-operated drill will suffice for limited work. The typical fractional drill bit set contains 29 bits, in sizes from 1/16″ to 1/2″, in 64th-of-an-inch steps. For most robotic creations, you’ll use only a third of these, but it’s nice to have the full set in case you ever need the others.
  • Hobby Knife: Interchangeable blades make the hobby knife it is a a handy tool for cutting cardboard, foam board, and thin plastics.
  • Pliers: One standard and needle nose pliers is adequate for 90% all things considered. Locking grip pliers and Water pump pliers are also useful at times.
  • Metal and Wood Saws: A saw of some type is beneficial to cut thicker materials or make long straight cuts.
  • Safety Glasses: Important eye protection against flying debris. 

2.Soldering Iron

The soldering iron is an extremely valuable apparatus for gathering electronic circuits and interfacing copper wires together. So this is included in must have robotics tools as at is very useful for assembling circuits.

For electronic circuits, you’ll need a light soldering iron (~25 W) with a small point (shaped like a pencil point).
Soldering electronic components are done with “soft soldering”: with a low temperature (less than 300°C). For the most part for electronics, the melting purpose of the solder lays around 238°C. When buying solder choose for a solder wire (60% lead, 40% tin) with non-corrosive flux. (There is also “eutectic solder” – 63% lead, 37% tin, which transitions from liquid to solid immediately, with no plastic state in between.) Take the thinnest wire you can find (<=1 mm).

A breadboard is a great robotics tool to build a temporary especially if you are looking for the tools for prototype or even tools for robotics.

The boards permit you to construct a temporary circuit in a matter of seconds. Particularly convenient for testing new circuits. Connections are made with either ordinary thin stiff wire with the insulation removed at the ends or with extraordinary breadboard wires with stronger tips. These boards are used to effectively make prototype circuits without welding. This is acceptable if you have not completely built up your soldering abilities or need to immediately assemble prototypes and test thoughts without binding another circuit each time. 4.Electronic Equipment

  • Multi-meter: A multimeter is used to measure voltage, resistance, current, check continuity of connections, and more. If you know you will be building several robots and working with electronics, it is wise to invest in a higher quality multi-meter.
  • LED’s: An underrated test device for digital circuits.
  • Signal generators: Generates different shapes of signals (sine, square, saw, and triangle), with variable frequency (1 Hz up to 100 MHz) and amplitude.
  • Oscilloscope: An oscilloscope allows you to “see” an electrical signal. This instrument is an unquestionable requirement for circuit plan and troubleshooting, yet it isn’t a necessity for general electronics tinkering. Decide on a model with no under 30 MHz bandwidth.
  • Variable power supply: Having a powerful and reliable power source is very important when developing complex circuits and robots. The variable power supply allows you to test various voltages and currents without the hassle of needing several types of batteries and power adapters.

5. Miscellaneous Robotics Tools

These are robotics tools or tools for the prototype you must need to build a robot or prototype. Miscellaneous components for your robots are:

  • Insulation Displacement Connectors
  • RJ45 network connector: These are the connectors used on UTP network cables. If you are building small embedded controller boards an RJ45 can be a handy connector size to use.
  • Hot glue gun: The glue which comes out of a hot glue gun sets rapidly and provides a good bond.
  • Measuring Tapes: The most popular types of tape used in robotics are duct and electrical. Electrical tape is best suited for electrical components (since it does not conduct) while duct tape is best for structural elements.
  • Thicker wire: As you build larger robots, DC motors will require higher current and therefore larger diameter wires. The lower the gauge, the thicker the wire and the more current it can handle.
